PWN water is supplied in northern Holland by the PWN whose abbreviations stand for provincial water leiding network and ensures the supply of tap water through its 140,000-kilometre-long water supply network. You pay much less per litre of water at PWN than a litre of spring water or mineral water in the supermarket. PWN also takes care of quality control on 65 water quality characteristics. The quality requirements for drinking water are laid down by law. Dutch spring water for sale in supermarkets has the same 65 quality requirements as Dutch tap water. Mineral water independent of its country of origin only has to meet 15 quality requirements. Due to increasing environmental pollution, PWN gave trouble in 2024 with the purification of water by PFAS discharges.
In this article, we make you aware of the use of water for more purposes after water purification and the use of a water ioniser at your home. This is still very much unknown in the Netherlands while in Asian countries and the United States, water ionisation devices have rapidly grown in popularity. The technology of a Water Ioniser explained

The water ioniser anno 2018 contains 11 titanium-coated platinum plates, through which current is conducted. So-called electrolysis. The plates contain pores, as it were, which may or may not allow certain substances to pass through. For instance, in the right-hand compartment you can see Calsium, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium and Oxygen. These enter the alkaline Alpha Water. In the left compartment you see Phosphate, Sulphate and Chlorine entering the acidic or waste water.
Technology has continued to develop and the number of plates has also increased significantly in recent years. This has increased the flow rate of the water, i.e. the capacity of the water ioniser.

Also, only 80 out of 3,000 medicine raw materials were involved in a study on the quality of tap water in the province of South Holland. In six municipalities, there was a public health risk because the values were too high. These included antibiotics, diclofenac and a drug for epilepsy. How does this picture change once all drug commodities are included in a new study?
# 2 Water filter for chlorine from PWN water
On the websites of water companies, you can read that 20% of total water production is treated with chlorine. This means that a high percentage (60%) of surface water (1/3 of the total) is treated with chlorine. After all, source water does not need to be treated with chlorine. All the chlorine remains in the Alpha filters. Is the low concentration of chlorine in our drinking water harmful? If you don't want to take any risk at all then don't wait for future medical studies.

Dutch tap water contains a very low concentration of pesticides which are basically carcinogenic. Water companies also warn against using pesticides to remove moss between garden tiles in summer. # 4 Filtering water to capture plastic fibres in PWN water
Globally, an alarming tap water survey was conducted in 2017 by testing samples for the presence of plastic particles in many countries - including Germany, France and the UK.
72% of the European samples contain plastic fibres.
In other countries including America, rates were above 90% of samples.
These particles are very small and therefore have the ability to enter our cells. One danger is that they are not biodegradable. This environmental pollution is very worrying and doctors are sounding the alarm. They are demanding rapid scientific research for the implications for our health. The particles enter the atmosphere via our clothes dryers which release plastic fibres from our clothes into the atmosphere. They then enter surface water via precipitation.
#5 Filtering water to capture asbestos particles from PWN water
The water supply network of the 10 Dutch water supply companies totals 140,000 kilometres. About 35,000 Kilometres have been made with asbestos cement pipes. As these pipelines are more than 60 years old and may increasingly leak, they need to be rehabilitated. The cost involved is an estimated 200 billion euros. Three out of 10 water supply companies have started this work. According to the RIVM, there is no danger when drinking asbestos particles.
Foreign research indicates slight increased risk of 3 types of cancer when drinking water collected from a well via an asbestos roof for long periods. A leak in a Dutch (main) water pipe can temporarily release very high concentrations of asbestos particles into tap water. We do not know the dangers of this very well. # 6 PWN Water softener not required
The pH value of PWN tap water is fine. You don't need to invest in equipment for this yourself. The pH value of Dutch tap water is already perfect. This indicates the softness of drinking water. So in the Netherlands, we don't need a water softener. In other countries around us, however, we do.
#7 Water descaler for drinking water, tea and coffee
Lime scale results from the crystallisation of healthy and necessary calcium and magnesium minerals. We see this in kettles and coffee machines. Of course, the most well-known limescale is that from our washing machine and dishwasher. The latter 2 are outside the scope for the Alpha Water Ioniser. The water ioniser changes the existing calcium and magnesium crystal structure without extracting these healthy elements and also without adding harmful substances. The (healthy) lime particles remain - dissolved in the alkaline water - as original calcium and magnesium minerals.
